Our Goal

At FNU, we believe everyone, regardless of financial status, should have access to a high-quality education. The mission of our financial aid office is to provide a package that will cover the difference between your budget and your needs.

Current and prospective students are urged to file a financial aid application early and follow-up with any additional information needed to make an award. Each campus has a financial aid office to assist in the application process.

Determining Your Needs

Federal student aid is determined by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Using a formula established by the U.S. Congress, the the information you provided calculates your family’s ability to pay for educational expenses and produces a figure known as the Expected Family Contribution (EFC). Your financial need is the difference between cost of attendance and your EFC.

What is Financial Aid?

Financial aid is money provided by various agencies, including federal, state and local governments, community organizations, corporations and individuals, to help students meet the cost of attending college. It comes in several forms, including scholarships, grants, loans and work-study.

Financial Need

The cost of attendance (COA) at Florida National University consists of tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, transportation and personal expenses. You must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Department of Education will determine your expected family contribution (EFC), or the amount you and your parents/spouse will be expected to pay towards your estimated COA. Your financial need is defined as the difference between your COA and your EFC. The amounts and types of aid awarded to you will depend upon your level of need as determined by this calculation.

The first step is to create Your FSA ID

An FSA ID is a username and password that you must use to log in to certain U.S. Department of Education (ED) websites. Your FSA ID identifies you as someone who has the right to access your own personal information on ED websites such as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) site at fafsa.gov.

The second step is to complete the FAFSA

Entrance/Exit Counseling

Complete the Student Direct Lending Loan Entrance Counseling at the Department of Education Website: www.studentloans.gov
Master Promissory Note
Student must sign the Master Promissory Note in order to receive a student loan. Signing a promissory note means you agree to repay the Student Loan according to the terms of the note.

The National Student Loan Data system www.nslds.ed.gov (NSLDS) is the U.S. Department of Education’s central database for student aid. It receives data from schools, agencies that guarantee loans, the Direct Loan program, the Pell Grant program, and other U.S. department of Education programs.

For further information about your loans, you may contact the holder of the loan or visit the NSLDS web site at www.nslds.ed.gov.

Notice

Applying for financial aid is an annual process. You must complete a FAFSA each year for which you are requesting financial aid. Your Expected Family Contribution and your costs will be reevaluated each year, and as a result your financial aid package may change. Meeting Florida National University financial aid application priority date of March 1 is critical to ensuring that your financial aid package is the most favorable package we can offer.

Circumstance Changes

If you or your parents’ financial situation changes, please contact the Financial Aid Officer. We may be able to reevaluate your need for funding based on your changed circumstances. Changes to be reported include the following:

Loss of employment
Death or disability of a parent
Divorce or separation
Loss of untaxed income (such as child support)
